Hurst Green Singers

Like all choirs, we are unable to meet to rehearse or perform at the current time because of Covid-19 restrictions.  We are, however, keen to sing and are therefore going to restart in the autumn via Zoom.  Our first Zoom rehearsal will be on Tuesday 1 September at 8.00pm when we will start studying the Brahms Requiem.  Non HGS members are welcome to join us for this term - please see the news section for further details.

Hurst Green Singers is a friendly group of amateur singers. We aim to develop vocal technique, rehearse with a positive and enthusiastic attitude, explore new repertoire and perform to the best of our ability.

We meet every Tuesday evening during term time in St. John's Church, Hurst Green, at 8.00 pm.

We are currently full and cannot take on any new members, but if you are interested in joining us, please contact or use the contact form on this website. We will include you on our waiting list and there are usually vacancies at the beginning of each term. We are particularly keen to welcome new tenors.

There are no auditions and while there is no requirement to read music, there must be a willingness to learn, sing on pitch, blend with other voices and commit to regular rehearsals.

We usually perform two concerts a year, one in May and the other in December.

The December concert marks the lead–up to Christmas and ends with a selection of carols, some lesser known and often unaccompanied, others old favourites for both choir and audience participation.

The May concert is usually held in the first half of the month and in recent years, as can be seen on the Past Concerts page, we have performed a number of major works by Handel, Rutter, Karl Jenkins, as well as an eclectic mix of other choral works by a wide range of composers. We have recently started to explore works by living composers such as Dan Forrest, Will Todd and Randol Bass.

The choir is also available to sing at weddings and funerals at churches and other venues in the area.
