Hurst Green Singers is a friendly group of singers. We usually perform two concerts a year, one in May and the other in December, both of which are well attended.
We meet every Tuesday evening during term time in St. John's Church, Hurst Green, at 8.00 pm.
There are no auditions, and there is no requirement to read music although this is an advantage. A willingness to learn is important but above all it's about enjoying the stimulation of singing together, the challenge of learning new works and the joy of being part of a successful performance.
The December concert in St John's Church marks the lead–up to Christmas and ends with a selection of carols, some lesser known and often unaccompanied, others old favourites for both choir and audience participation. It is always a popular event and a highlight of the season.
The May concert is normally accompanied by a small orchestra.
In recent years, as can be seen on the Past Concerts page, we have performed a number of major works by Handel (Solomon, Samson, The Messiah, Belshazzar), Mozart (Requiem, C Minor Mass) etc, as well as an eclectic mix of shorter choral works by a wide range of composers.
2015 was the 30th anniversary of Michael Barlow's involvement as Hurst Green Singers' choir master and conductor and was thus something of a special year of celebration.
The choir is also available to sing at weddings and other events at churches and other venues in the area.
We are always looking for new members and will always give you a warm welcome, so if you enjoy singing or think that you might, come along any Tuesday evening in term time just before 8.00 pm and give us a try.
You can find how to get to St John's Church on the Map page and details of dates on the Diary page.
